When To Call
911

 

You should call 911  be used if the situation presents an immediate threat to yours or someone else's life or property. Remember its for reporting Fire, Police or Medical Emergencies only If you call 911 for a non-emergency you could be placing somebody else's life at risk. There are only so many lines available and they must be kept for true emergencies. 

Below are examples to use as a guideline when determining how to obtain assistance. Use your own common sense when deciding whether or not to call 911.


 

When To Call 911

If you discover a fire, hazardous, explosive or suspicious material or devices 

Medical situations which require immediate attention

Potential hazardous situations, such as; downed telephone or electric wires,   

Any situation involving weapons or a potential for violence 

If you see a crime in progress.

Any crime which has just occurred provided the caller or other witness can provide description or information on the suspects involved

Suspicious activity which has a potential of being a hazardous, medical or criminal emergency

Physical fights or altercations

If you hear an explosion or shots being fired

Unknown problems i.e. person screaming for help, or somebody requests you "call 911", 

An accident with confirmed or possible injuries or any hit and run type accident

Gas leak

Missing child or other missing individual if there are suspicious circumstances or the missing person may be at risk (in need of medication, physically or mentally disabled, elderly or suicidal)

Possible intoxicated, impaired or reckless driver

When somebody threatens, attempts suicide
